Violations of Human Rights and Freedoms in Palestine

October 2018

 

In October 2018, domestic violations continued at a varying pace. This Monthly Report highlights major human rights violations as monitored by the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR). The ICHR monitored the following violations:

 

  • Compared to 11 in September, the ICHR monitored 16 incidents of unnatural death in October 2018.
  • In comparison to 23 in September, the ICHR received 34 complaints on torture and ill-treatment in October 2018.
  • Compared to 25 in September, the ICHR received 24 complaints on violations of the right to the due process of law and detention without guarantees of a fair trial in October 2018.
  • In comparison to 48 in September, the ICHR received 43 complaints on governor-ordered detentions in the West Bank in October 2018.
  • While it received three in September, the ICHR did not register any complaints on unenforced or delayed enforcement of court decisions in October 2018.
  • While two were monitored in September, no death sentences were documented in October 2018.
  • In comparison to five in September, the ICHR received four complaints on abuses of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, freedom of the press and right to freedom of peaceful assembly in October 2018.
  • Compared to three in September, the ICHR received two complaints on violations of the right to freedom of movement and travel in October 2018.
  • While none were filed in September, the ICHR received two complaints on abuses of the right to academic freedom in October 2018.
  • Compared to two in September, the ICHR received five complaints on attacks on public properties and persons in October 2018.
  • The ICHR received one complaint on seizure of private properties in October 2018. No such complaints were filed in September.
