The Independent Commission for Human Rights condemns the crime of storming Birzeit University by Israeli occupation undercover forces on Monday, January 10, 2022, which also opened fire heavily, arrested and injured a number of university students, including the heads of student blocs.

ICHR considers this behavior as a flagrant violation against the Palestinian academic and cultural institutions, which also comes in the context of systematic targeting of student activities and peaceful activism at the Palestinian universities.

While ICHR holds the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the safety of the detained and injured students and calls for their immediate release, it also calls on the international community to assume its responsibilities in providing protection for the Palestinian citizens and institutions. It also calls on UNESCO to condemn this crime, the attacks and harassment of Palestinian educational institutions, their students and staff.
