ICHR welcomes the ICC prosecutor's  statement on the Request for Issuing Arrest Warrants

The Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) welcomes the statement issued by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, and considers that the request for issuing arrest warrants against senior Israeli officials could initiate a new phase of ending impunity. The Commission appreciates this belated step and emphasizes the necessity to continue on this path and to build upon it, looking forward to the decision of the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court to endorse the Prosecutor's request.

While the Commission regrets that the Prosecutor's statement did not address the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, war crimes committed before October 7, 2023, and the brutal and harsh treatment of Palestinian prisoners, especially those from the Gaza Strip, it expresses surprise that the decision did not include Israeli military officials who participated in committing these crimes according to articles 25, 27, and 28 of the Rome Statute. However, this does not prevent their inclusion in future stages, so as not to equate the victim with the perpetrator.
