In May 2019, domestic violations continued at a varying pace. This Monthly Report highlights major human rights violations as monitored by the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR). Overall, the ICHR monitored the following violations:

  • Compared to 11 in April 2019, the ICHR monitored nine incidents of unnatural death in May 2019.
  • The ICHR received 19 complaints on torture and ill-treatment in May 2019. By contrast, 37 complaints was filed in April 2019.  
  • In comparison to 48 in April 2019, the ICHR received 17 complaints on violations of the right to the due process of law and detention without guarantees of a fair trial in May 2019.
  • Compared to four in April 2019, the ICHR received six complaints on governor-ordered detentions in the West Bank in May 2019.
  • Compared to three in April 2019, the ICHR received one complaint on unenforced or delayed enforcement of court decisions in May 2019.
  • In comparison to one in April 2019, the ICHR received six complaints on abuse of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, freedom of the press and right to freedom of peaceful assembly in May 2019.
  • The ICHR received three complaints on violations of the right to freedom of movement and travel in May 2019. Similar complaints were not filed to the ICHR in April 2019.
  • In contrast to five in April 2019, the ICHR received two complaints that involved attacks on public properties and persons in May 2019.
  • Compared to three in April 2019, the ICHR received one complaint on seizure of private properties in May 2019.
  • While one complaint was filed in April 2019, the ICHR did not receive any complaints on violations of the right to academic freedom in May 2019.
  • The ICHR received three complaints against denial of access to documents in May 2019. Similar complaints were not lodged to the ICHR in April 2019.
