Palestine Independent Commission for Human Rights Engages in Dialogue with the International Committee of the Red Cross about the Humanitarian Crisis and Prisoners' Conditions
Dr. Ammar Al Dwaik, The Director-General of Palestine Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR), along with the ICRC's head of the sub-delegation in the West Bank, Arnaud Meffre, the head of the protection team, and the director of the legal department, convened to discuss the ICRC's humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip. Their efforts encompassed relief work, delivery of medical aid, and the provision of essential support to hospitals in Gaza.
The dialogue also addressed the dire conditions of Palestinian prisoners and the punitive measures enforced by the occupation authorities. This includes widespread arrest campaigns across the West Bank and emerging reports alleging torture and mistreatment of prisoners.
ICHR urged the ICRC to investigate the tragic deaths of prisoners Arafat Hamdan and Omar Draghmeh in the Israeli prisons and to facilitate the return of their bodies. ICHR called for intensified visits by the international organization to all detention facilities, including recently established camps by the occupying forces for Palestinians from Gaza, predominantly workers who were previously employed in areas within the Green Line under official permits from the occupation authorities. ICHR underscored the necessity for the Red Cross to amplify its advocacy efforts with the occupation authorities, advocating for the resumption of Red Cross representatives' visits to Palestinian prisoners.
